If You Can Read This . . .

Guy Hoff, an under-valued illustrator of yester-century, shows us cute usage of a now common phrase, pre-bumper-sticker.

When was the first bumper-sticker used, anyway?

don't know about bumper stickers.
But why tempt a guy who is hooked by anyting written, the more so by small print and then put him down as "too close"?
Most unfair, this!

Merrimac Caverns in Missouri claims to be the inventor of the bumper sticker. Lester P. Dill who opened them to the public in 1935, paid kids to slap "Visit Merrimac Caverns" stickers on the bumpers of cars who came to visit, so when they headed off down the road, they'd advertise to the next bunch of tourists down the line.

I did a tour of Route 66 back in '07 and it's one of the many highlights I did research on before heading out. You should have asked me. :P
